So, you have landed an interview… great!

Now comes the part where preparation meets confidence, ensuring you showcase your skills and make a lasting impression.

Whether it’s a first round screening or final stage discussion, taking the time to prepare properly can make all the difference. Here are some key steps to set yourself up for success:

Know the role inside out

Read the job description carefully including what skills and experience are essential. Make sure you can confidently explain how your background aligns with what the employer is looking for.

Research the company and industry

Familiarise yourself with the company’s mission, values, and latest updates. Understand how they position themselves in their industry as showing genuine knowledge sets you apart.

Practice common interview questions

While you can’t predict every question, preparing answers for key themes such as strengths, weaknesses, achievements and problem-solving scenarios helps you feel more composed on the day.

Use the STAR technique for stronger responses.

For competency based questions, use the STAR method:

  • Situation – set the context

  • Task – what needed to be done?

  • Action – what did YOU do?

  • Result – what was the outcome?

This ensures clear, structured answers that highlight your value effectively.

Prepare thoughtful questions

Hiring managers want engaged candidates. Ask about company culture, future opportunities or team dynamics as it shows interest beyond just getting the job.

Confidence, not perfection

Interviewers don’t expect robotic perfection… they are looking for authenticity, professionalism and enthusiasm so keep this in mind!

Dress professionally and be mindful of your tone

Even in video interviews, presentation matters. Dress appropriately, be mindful of tone and maintain positive body language - your communication style makes an impact.

At ProMatch, I work with businesses to ensure hiring is fair, strategic and effective, but interview success ultimately comes down to preparation.  By focusing on the right details, you present yourself at your best and that’s what makes all the difference.
